IVON Trial
IVON stands for Intravenous Versus Oral Iron for iron deficiency anaemia (IDA) in pregnant Nigerian Women. The IVON Trial is funded by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation to study the effectiveness of intravenous ferric carboxymaltose (intervention) versus oral ferrous sulphate (control) for treating anaemia and IDA in pregnancy. It also measures acceptability, feasibility, implementation outcomes and the cost-effectiveness of intravenous iron among pregnant Nigerian women with moderate and severe anaemia at 20–32 weeks gestation.
