Frequently Asked Questions
If you are still unsure about this test, here are some questions that we usually get asked.
Still need answers?
Why is iron important?
Iron is essential to life. It contributes to the reduction of tiredness and fatigue. It plays an important role in normal energy metabolism, oxygen transport, cognitive function, immune function and formation of red blood cells and haemoglobin.
What foods are rich in iron?
- Red meat
- Pork
- Poultry
- Beans
- Dark green, leafy vegetables
- Dried fruits
- Cereals, bread, and pasta
What can happen if iron-deficiency anaemia is not treated?
If left untreated, iron-deficiency anaemia can cause serious health problems. Having too little oxygen in the body can damage organs. With anaemia, the heart must work harder to make up for the lack of red blood cells or haemoglobin. This extra work can harm the heart.
Iron deficiency anaemia can also cause problems during pregnancy.
